A Response to Rev. 19:5

Revelation 19:5:

And from the throne came a voice saying,

“Praise our God,

all you his servants,

you who fear him,

small and great.”

This scene from heaven commands praise, so I reflected on it and offer a response:

The adjective “our” attached to His name

is a scandalous fact of His glorious grace.

Employed by His Spirit for joy in His service,

we submit our own wills to His wonderful purpose.

In fear without fear, we stand in God’s presence;

A paradox of faith ensured by Christ’s session.

Famous or nameless there are no little people

who stand in the shadow of God’s mighty steeple.

Praise is the end of all these great truths

and blessed is the Lord who speaks them to you.
